Nature activities and events happening this week 3-9 Jan 05 8 Jan (Sat): Botanic Gardens Rainforest Trail free guided walk A fabulously easy introduction to a rainforest with tall trees and other mysterious plants! Right in the heart of the city, within minutes of Orchard Road, this is the oldest remnant of rainforest in Singapore! more Time: 9am, 10am, 11am, 4pm; Register 15 minutes before the tour at the Visitor Centre. Tour duration: one hour. Suitable for young children. A special Mandarin version of this tour is at 4pm. Contact: Visitor Services, 64717361 or NPARKS_SBG_Visitor_Services@NPARKS.GOV.SG 8 Jan (Sat): Sensory Trail, Pulau Ubin free guided walk The Green Volunteers Network introduce you to nature. Use all your senses to appreciate and learn about fascinating plants. more Time: 10am sharp, meet at Changi Point jetty (under the big angsana tree nearest to the jetty). Tour duration: one to one and a half hours PRE-REGISTRATION IS NECESSARY for this event. Bookings are on a first come first serve basis, up to a max of 25. Contact: To register, please contact Joe at info@gvn.com.sg with your name, number of people and handphone number. 8 Jan (Sat): Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve free guided walk You'll see the fabulous plants and animals of the mangroves and freshwater wetlands. Besides the abundant bird life, there is also other fascinating wildlife in the Reserve. more Time: 9am, 10am, 3pm, 4pm, for walk in guests, register at the Visitor Centre. Those coming with large groups are advised to pre-register. Tour duration: one to one and a half hours. Easy trails, some suitable for young children. Entry charges: $1 per adult, 50cents per child/student/senior citizen. Contact: sbwr@pacific.net.sg or call 6794 1401 8-9 Jan (Sat & Sun): Organic Farm Stay at Choa Chu Kang Inspired by current events - SARS, chicken flu, the tsunami - a few people got together, and decided to organise an overnight stay at an organic farm in Singapore. This is an unique opportunity to re-connect with an agricultural environment and rethink how our individual choices are impacting the environment. Likewise, how the environment is influencing our lives. During these precious two days, there will be thoughtful workshops about organic farming, food system and the environment. Participants will also get a taste of farm work and be oriented to an organic diet by learning how to prepare delicious meals with produce straight off the farm. Venue: Greencircle Organic Farm (Choa Chu Kang) Meeting Time: 8 Jan (Sat) 9am Choa Chu Kang MRT station control Cost: $25 (Working adult) $15 (Student) Target number of participants: Max 15 Contact: RSVP before 7 Jan at scmsing@yahoo.com, with following details: Name, Email, Contact No, Age, Gender, Occupation Note: As participants may need to rough it out in the farm and be involved in the discussions, children below the age of 12 yrs old may not be suitable to join in the farm stay. 9 Jan (Sun): MacRitchie Prunus Trail free guided walk You'll see breath-taking views of the reservoir and surrounding forests and learn more about the freshwater and land wildlife and plants there. more Time: 9.30am and 10.30am. Meet at entrance of the trail, about 300m from the fishing ground, MacRitchie Reservoir Park. Tour duration: about one hour. To join the guided tour, you will need to pre-book.
