18 Nov (Sat): Tackling the Illegal Wildlife Trade in Singapore

Mr. Louis Ng, President, Acres (Animal Concerns Research and Education Society) presents this talk. Singapore is often labelled a hub for the illegal wildlife trade. This talk explores the extent of the illegal wildlife trade here. The work of Acres, a local charity, in rescuing animals from the trade and conducting undercover investigations to expose the trade will be highlighted. Acres’s latest project, the establishment of Singapore’s first wildlife rescue centre to house animals rescued from the illegal pet trade, will be discussed.

18 Nov (Sat): "Secrets of our sea revealed - of sea cows, turtles and otters in Singapore" and "Muddy tales from the Mangroves of Singapore - of crabs and crocs, and all you can eat!"

Talk by N. Sivasothi of the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research (RMBR) at the National Environment Agency (NEA) at The Public Service Exhibition for the "Friendly Environment, Environment Friendly" cluster. NEA will be featuring the Semakau Landfill. There will also be other talks by the Nature Society (Singapore) and Sport Fishing Association of Singapore.

18 Nov (Sat): Rediscover Marina City Park
for NSS members only

Shawn Lum and the Plant Group introduces you to Marina City Park, a tranquil place overlooking Marina Bay. Although it will soon make way for the development of Gardens by the Bay, the park is not without its charms. In addition to some interesting plants, Marina City Park forms part of a surprising green corridor that has organically developed in the area. We'll take a leisurely walk through this park and also attempt to imagine what the site and its surroundings will look like in a few years' time.

Time: 9.30am, meet at Carpark A (across from the Park and behind the Planet Marina complex). Marina City Park can be accessed from Shenton Way or the Marina Bay MRT Station via SBS service 400.

18 Nov (Sat): Native Plant Hunt at Hindhede Nature Park

Here's a chance to learn at least 8 native plant species in a fun way! Form a team of 3 to 5 members and pick up a set of clues at the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve Visitor Centre anytime from 10.00 am to 11.00 am. You have one hour to complete your hunt.

Registration for the free plant hunt is limited to maximum of 20 people per registrant.

You'll see the fabulous plants and animals of the mangroves and freshwater wetlands. Besides the abundant bird life, there is also other fascinating wildlife in the Reserve. more

3pm: Marine Fish Tour, a 30-minute tour introducing the fascinating fishes of Buloh.

Time: 9am, 10am, 3pm, 4pm, for walk in guests, register at the Visitor Centre. Those coming with large groups are advised to pre-register.
Tour duration: one to one and a half hours. Easy trails, some suitable for young children.
Entry charges: $1 per adult, 50cents per child/student/senior citizen.

Explore the beauty and diversity of orchids at the Singapore Botanic Gardens with volunteer guides in this one-hour tour. Please register 15 minutes before the tour. Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis at the Visitor Centre. more
