Nature activities and events happening this week 11-17 Sep 06 9 Sep (Sat)-19 Sep (Tue): UNEP "Focus on Your World" Environment Photographic Exhibition Eco 4 the World Foundation brings theUnited Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) "Focus on Your World" Photographic Exhibition to Singapore which was created to increase global public awareness of environmental issues through the power of visual images. This exhibition is a part of the 'Passage of Hope' programme. 9 Sep (Sun) and 16 Sep (Sun): The Toddycats, volunteers from the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research, will be at the event to showcase Singapore's biodiversity and share with you what you can do for our wild places. Time: 2-4pm Venue: LT 6 Contact: Boon Wah earthlink0506@yahoo.com 13 Sep (Wed): World Bank - Up Close Founded in 1945 for the reconstruction of post-war Europe, the World Bank has evolved into one of the world's largest sources of development assistance with its mission to reduce global poverty. The World Bank, sometimes referred to as the "Knowledge Bank" conducts and publishes research on a broad range of social and economic development issues including development policy, finance, health, education, trade, aid effectiveness, and poverty. Mr. Jose de Buerba will give an overview of the World Bank publishing program, providing information and insight into key annual publications and other popular series. The presentation will include a demonstration of the World Bank Online Resources and will be followed by a question and answer session. The session will be of interest to researchers, librarians, and students as well as to anyone interested in learning more about the World Bank publishing program. More on the ICCS website. 16 Sep (Sat): National Orchid Garden Tour free guided walk Explore the beauty and diversity of orchids at the Singapore Botanic Gardens with volunteer guides in this one-hour tour. Please register 15 minutes before the tour. Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis at the Visitor Centre. more Time: 9am, 10am, 11am and 4pm. Register 15 mins beforehand at Visitor Centre Contact: Visitor Services (6471 7361) Admission fees to the National Orchid Garden applies. Adults - $5; Students - $1; Senior Citizens (Above 60 years) - $1; Children (Below 12 years) free. 16 Sep (Sat): Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve free guided walk You'll see the fabulous plants and animals of the mangroves and freshwater wetlands. Besides the abundant bird life, there is also other fascinating wildlife in the Reserve. more Time: 9am, 10am, 3pm, 4pm, for walk in guests, register at the Visitor Centre. Those coming with large groups are advised to pre-register. Tour duration: one to one and a half hours. Easy trails, some suitable for young children. Entry charges: $1 per adult, 50cents per child/student/senior citizen. Contact: sbwr@pacific.net.sg or call 6794 1401 17 Sep (Sun): Birdwatching at Springleaf for NSS members only Join Dr Ho Hua Chew who leads on this almost forgotten part of Singapore which still harbours some of its old rural charm. The many tall trees and thick woods are home to parakeets, woodpeckers, bee-eaters, trillers and many other countryside birds. Time: 7.30am Meet at the junction of Sembawang and Nee Soon Road.
