27 Oct 05 - 17 Jan 06: ‘La Terre Vue du Ciel’- Earth from above

The French Embassy and the Singapore Environment Council present the world-renowned photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s exhibition ‘La Terre Vue du Ciel’ or ‘Earth from Above’. Held on Orchard Road stretching across Liat Towers, Far East Shopping Centre, Hilton Hotel and Forum Galleria, this is the first of its kind in South East Asia. The exhibition is an aerial portrait of our planet captured in 120 breathtaking photos.

19-27 Nov: School Holiday Special - Free Admission for Students into National Orchid Garden

Students can now enjoy free admission into the National Orchid Garden between Saturday, 19 November and Sunday, 27 November. Please present your valid student pass at the Ticketing Pavilion of National Orchid Garden to gain free admission. Non-students could purchase admission tickets at the following rates: Adults - $ 5.00 Seniors (60 years and above) - $ 1.00 Free admission is also applicable to children, aged 12 years and below.

21-27 Nov: Singapore Green Plan Exhibition at Toa Payoh Town Centre, HDB Hub Mall

38 Singaporeans share their views on why we should care about our environment and what they are doing about it. (See more about some of them on Siva's habitatnews). Find out how Singapore is tackling environmental challenges ahead in the latest review of the Singapore Green Plan (SGP) 2012. Check out what you can do for a better lifestyle and a better environment.

22-23 Nov (Tue, Wed): Screening of "Losing Tomorrow" a film by Patrick Rouxel

Film screening by Nature Society (Singapore) in association with Wildlife Asia and in support of GAFI. This 40-min award winning film features the beauty of Sumatra as seen through the eyes of our main character - an Orangutan. The second part of the film concentrates on the threats to the forests from deforestation, focusing on the demands of the hard wood trade. Extra 10 min feature of Patrick Rouxel's visit to Sumatra documenting his experience as he shows his films to local communities. Most importantly it will feature the reactions, thoughts and feelings of those who watch the film. Includes Q&A where Patrick will be present to discuss his work. Proceeds go to GAFI.

23 Nov (Wed): Kids' Fun with Orangutans at Fort Canning Park

The Nature Society (Singapore)'s Education Group introduces fun discovering Orangutans. Do Orangutans have a swinging life in the wild? What do they love to eat the most? Clue: something you and I like too! Get to know this awesome ape. Hands-on activities include a Food Hunt & Nesting the Orangutan way.

Outdoor activities followed by indoor refreshments at The Substation at 6pm, and at 7pm optional film viewing - "Losing Tomorrow" (see above) on the Orangutans of Sumatra. Suitable for children 5-11 years.

23 Nov-31 Dec 05: From Ants to Eagles - photos of Singapore's wildlife

An exhibition of prints by 20 members of the Nature Photographic Society (Singapore) featuring local wildlife images. A photography course for beginners will be run at the epSITE during the exhibition.

26 Nov (Sat): Nature Workshops Forest Fruits and Forest Products at the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

The Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research conducts this one-hour indoor workshop targeted at the general public, in particular students. Using specimens and interactive games learn more about nature in Singapore!

Did you notice that many forest trees in the Reserve have recently produced lots of fruits? Why do different forest plants have different kinds of fruits? How are they dispersed? Design your own fruit that can travel the furthest. Ever wonder what the cane is made up of, or the basket, or the mat? What else did we use from the forest for use in our daily lives?

The Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research conducts this one-hour indoor workshop targeted at the general public, in particular students. Using specimens and interactive games learn more about nature in Singapore!

Do you want to find out more about feathers, skeletons, eggs and nests of birds? Do you know birds have different kinds of feathers for different purposes? Want to learn how to prepare an egg specimen? Think it is easy to build a nest? Try building one yourself. Come and explore the variety of nests, eggs, feathers and birds that can be found in our natural environment through this hands-on workshop.

Ho Hua Chew leads this outing. This is a good period for viewing migratory birds and resident attractions like the Pacific Reef Egret, Great Billed Heron, Little Tern, Malaysian Plover etc. Free parking at Carpark 2 off the West Coast Highway. Number of persons required for trip: 11 or 22 or 33. Identity card or passport mandatory for boarding. Strictly for members only - 1st come 1st served basis.

Time: 7.30am at the West Coast Pier (near Rep of Singapore Yacht Club.) Return at 1.00pm.

Experience Ubin’s wonderful nature through your different senses along our Sensory Trail. The easy walk is an excellent introduction to the rustic and natural character of the island. You will be able to touch, see or smell fruit trees, spices and herbs for cooking, plants used in traditional medicine and native plants of the mangrove forest. more

Time: Tours start at 9.30am and 10am, meet 10 minutes before the tour stars at the Ubin Information Kiosk (near Ubin Jetty).
Tour duration: one and a half hours.

Journey through time with our volunteer guides in this one-hour tour. Bizarre plants, bubbling pools of hot lava and lots of other things you wouldn't expect to see in a botanic garden!

You'll see the fabulous plants and animals of the mangroves and freshwater wetlands. Besides the abundant bird life, there is also other fascinating wildlife in the Reserve. more

4pm: Free Marine Fish Guided Walk at Sungei Buloh introducing you to the fabulous fishes of the Reserve.
