Did you know that Singapore is home to a myriad of plant and wildlife? Join Mr Siva, also known as the Otterman, as he brings you along on a journey of nature conservation in Singapore. Talk covers the need to keep our waters litter free so as to prevent them forming into an ugly and unhealthy sight, creating into a "River Monster". It will also encourage students to do their part everyday wherever they are. With our catchment area increasing to two-thirds of Singapore as a result of the Marina Bay,it becomes very important that we all understand how our waters can be polluted and filled with litter if we all dont do our part and have good social habits. Two-thirds of Singapore will be under our fresh water catchment area very soon. As Singaporeans, we need to have a good understanding of how we can help preserve our fresh water supply and what we can all do to ensure continous access to clean water. While we encourage more use of our fresh water reservoirs for fun and water activities, we must all have sustainable good social habits and be responsible for our individual actions. The talk will be on the schools experience in getting students interested and involved in environmental activities. The school has been successful in its waste recycling efforts and environmental projects such as the garden roof project. Lower secondary students will also present their environmental projects such as paper making and the conservation of the mud-skipper during the talk. Eden also aims to educate the general public about the importance of plants in their lives and help to foster greater support for conservation. This talk will tell the story of how Eden Project grew from an idea to a real project, the ideas behind the project, the challenges that were involved in building it, funding, construction of the huge greenhouses within an old mine, the planting and the displays, as well as where the project may be going in the future. Children will learn the difference between a freshwater pond and a brackish river. This is a program not be missed! Children will also come to understand nature conservation issues through worksheets, have exciting nature walks, come face to face with rare freshwater plants and enjoy hands-on activities on craft work. Limited to 25 children between the ages of 6-12 years old, Registration begins now till 15th October 2005. Contact: Genevie Chua 65545127 / 96616325 5 Nov (Sat): Lower Peirce Boardwalk free Nature Appreciation Walk The 900m boardwalks take you through the forest then along the edge of the Reservoir. So you will encounter a wide range of wildlife from forest to aquatic creatures. And enjoy wonderful panaromas of waters surrounding by luxuriant forest. Shaded by the forest, the walk is pleasantly cool. more Time: 9.30am and 10.30am. Meet at Casuarina Entrance of the trail along Old Upper Thomson Road. Tour duration: about one and a half hours. Besides the abundant bird life, there is also other fascinating wildlife in the Reserve. more 9am: Free Marine Fish Guided Walk at Sungei Buloh introducing you to the fabulous fishes of the Reserve. 9-11am and 3-5pm: Special Birdwatch session with volunteer guides to mark Clean and Green Week. You will learn more about the amazing plant life in a rainforest and how everything fits remarkably together. more Time: Walk starts at 4pm. Meet 5 minutes before the walk starts at the Visitor Centre. Tour duration: about one hour. Not accessible to prams and wheelchairs. To join the guided tour, you will need to pre-book with NParks.
