WHAT'S
ON THIS WEEK?! Nature activities and events happening this week 25-31 Jul 05 29 Jul (Fri): Slidetalk “Plants that Heal, Thrill and Kill” by Dr Wee Yeow Chin Many of the plants that we come into contact with have properties most of us are not aware of. Do you know that many common weeds are valued medicinally? Or that others are potentially hallucinogenic and can take you on “a trip to meet your long-lost ancestors”? How about plants that claim to have aphrodisiac properties? Or that the colourful ornamental plant you so admire can easily send you back to your maker? Do you know that certain common food plants can be dangerous to your health, if not properly prepared? Join us in this talk by the author of a new book ‘Plants that Heal, Thrill and Kill’, and discover the hidden powers of the plants around us. Time: 7.30pm, Nature Society (Singapore) office at 510 Geylang Road #02-05 The Sunflower. Charges: A Zest for Nature! programme: Members $5, Non members $8 Contact: More details about the Nature Society (Singapore). Despite its small size, however, the garden attracts a number of butterfly species, some of them uncommon. During this session, in addition to looking for interesting butterflies, we will also share how one can start a butterfly garden – and what one needs to do to maintain such a garden to keep it both butterfly- and human-friendly. Dress cool and bring lots of drinking water as it will get hot and sticky. Join us in our first NSS gotong-royong of the year and learn a little more about fellow members as well as butterflies and their favourite plants.
