27 Oct (Mon): Launch of a new coffee-table book "Singapore Waters"
Time: 3.30-5.30 pm
Place: Raffles Marina Atrium

The Marine Conservation Group of the Nature Society (Singapore) will the launch of their new coffee table book. Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister of State for National Development, is the Guest of Honour for the event. More details about the book and the team behind the book on habitatnews.

Prof David Bellamy

Place: Ritz-Carlton Millenia, The Grand Ballroom, Level 1

Prof David Bellamy will talk on "Science in Society, Singapore-Wise: A City Set Between Reef and Rainforest". This talk by the world renowned botanist, conservationist and TV personality is jointly organised by the Singapore Environment Council (SEC) and Nature Society (Singapore) NSS. 1 Nov (Sat): Free talk on "What's happening
in Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve?"

Time: 3-4pm
Place: Woodlands Regional Library Amazon Room

Many have appreciated the beauty of Sungei Buloh this last 9 years of its existence as a nature park. Recently renamed as Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve in January 2002, Sungei Buloh is used as a refueling and resting area for migratory birds and a great recreation place for her human visitors as well. Ms Halilah Ahmad, Education Officer at the Reserve, will talk about the the historical events and activities that many visitors have enjoyed participating for the past 9 years. This will lead to the ongoing and upcoming events to the countdown of Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve 10th year anniversary in December 2003.

1 Nov (Sat): Free Nature Appreciation Walk
at the Lower Peirce Boardwalk

Time: 9.30am and 10.30am. Meet at Casuarina Entrance of the trail along Old Upper Thomson Road.

You'll learn and see more about the plants and animals of the secondary forest and wetlands of the Lower Peirce Reservoir. More details. To join the guided tour, you will need to pre-book.

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

Time: 9am, 10am, 3pm, 4pm

You'll see the fabulous plants and animals of the mangroves and freshwater wetlands. Meet at the Visitor Centre. Usual entry charges apply: $1 per adult, 50cents per child /student/senior citizen. More details

In conjunction with Clean and Green Week, there will be a special event at the Reserve: BirdWatch at 9am and 3pm at the Main Hide and Aerie Hide. Catch these guided events to learn more about the migratory shorebirds who will be in full force at the Reserve at this time.

2 Nov (Sun): World Animal Day Celebration at Fort Canning
Time: 2-10pm

The Cat Welfare Society celebrates World Animal Day with a gathering of animal welfare and nature conservation groups. The event is free of charge and promises a carnival atmosphere with activities for the whole family. Come have a picnic while viewing “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde” on a big screen, join guided nature walks around Fort Canning, and learn to prepare yummy vegetarian food and healthy smoothies. Kids will enjoy the Bouncy Castle, face painting, balloon animals, henna painting and games stalls. More details on the Cat Welfare Society website.

Our very own Wildlife Singapore will be participating in this event with a photo exhibition showcasing Singapore's wild places.
