In fact, his speech at the swearing-in ceremony on 12 August, 2004 was titled "Let's shape our future together". 2 The Ministry of Community Development and Sports (MCDS), which will be renamed the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) on 1 September, 2004, will take this call further. We will be embarking on a public consultation exercise focused on the post independence generation. 3 Over the next six weeks, young Singaporeans will be invited to share their plans for making their dreams and aspirations a reality. The focus will not be just on what the Government should do, but on what young Singaporeans want to achieve together. 4 A Committee chaired by the MCDS Parliamentary Secretary, Dr Mohamad Maliki bin Osman, will spearhead this initiative. He will be assisted by Dr Chong Weng Chiew and Ms Penny Low, two Members of Parliament born after Singapore's Independence. Dr Maliki was born in 1965. They will invite young people from all segments of our society and leaders of youth organizations to brainstorm and discuss all ideas. They will also invite Singaporean youths who are currently overseas to send in their thoughts and aspirations. 5 MCYS will evaluate the needs, opportunities and resources in the youth sector. The contributions from our young people will help shape the framework for youth in Singapore, and will form the basis for the future programmes of the MCYS, National Youth Council and the various youth organizations in Singapore. 6 Members of the public can use the following channels to share your thoughts, dreams and aspirations: Email: creating_our_future@mcds.gov.sg Telephone: 1800-353-5555 SMS: 6353-5555 Fax: 6354-8128 |
