23 Jul 07 Help save Katong Park and heritage tree on it Letter from Jack Sim Juek Wah I AM glad there is now a great interest among Singaporeans in our heritage as seen by the letters and reports in The Straits Times. The sprawling beautiful Tanjong Katong Fort built in the 1800s, which is now buried under Katong Park, is in great danger of being converted into another condominium. A big part of Katong Park has been returned recently by National Parks Board to the Land Office. This is land that part of the fort is buried under. There is also a beautiful heritage tree on it: A Rainbow Eucalyptus which changes the colours of its bark daily from purple to green, pink, brown, red, and so on. I appeal to all heritage-conscious Singaporeans to lobby the Government to save this heritage. links Related articles on heritage trees |
