Times 2 Jul 07 Tadpoles, not mozzie larvae, in water pool Letter from S. Satish Appoo Director, Environmental Health Department National Environment Agency Lam Yan Hoe Head Parks Division (East Coast) National Parks Board WE REFER to the letter, 'Cyclist chances upon larva pool at ECP' by Mr Maximilian Mayrhofer (ST, June 23). Following the feedback, officers from the National Environment Agency (NEA) and the National Parks Board (NParks) checked the two pools referred to and found only tadpoles. There were no mosquito larvae. NParks manages this area. It is low-lying with inherently poor drainage due to an underlying layer of impervious marine clay, and aggravated by recent surrounding developments. However, the ponding problem should have been corrected earlier. Work will begin soon. Meanwhile regular checks will be stepped up. We thank Mr Mayrhofer for the feedback and his concerns on the dengue situation. links Related articles on Dengue fever |
