Marine Parade town carnival makes effort to encourage recycling

SINGAPORE: Recycling was the buzzword at Braddell Heights on Sunday where residents were given environmental tips at their town carnival.

With feisty cheerleaders, snake charmers and games for everyone, the Marine Parade Town Council's Carnival 2007 was frothing with energy. Even guest-of-honour Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong joined in the fun.

Amid all that excitement, residents were encouraged to bring recyclable items in exchange for packets of rice, sugar and drinks. They could also exchange coins for dollar notes in a coin-recycling effort.

The new S$2 million Serangoon Sunshine Park was also launched at the event. The park, located near St Gabriel's Secondary School, will be ready by June next year. - CNA/so
