Times 9 Jun 07 New TV show to promote keeping waterways clean VOLUNTEERS from the Waterways Watch Society conduct regular patrols along Singapore's waterways in an effort to keep them clean. But as this photograph of the Kallang River suggests, Singaporeans need to be made more aware of the consequences of carelessly disposing of their unwanted household goods. Starting next Wednesday, the Public Utilities Board will sponsor a local television series to drive home the environmental message. The eight-part variety show, called The ABCs Of Water, will feature local television celebrities who learn how Singapore's rivers and reservoirs can be beautified and kept clean. Hosted by Quan Yifeng and Desmond Koh, artists like Chen Liping, Chew Chor Meng and Kym Ng will be grilled through three rounds of water-related Q&A sessions. Correct answers allow them a chance to pick up litter from a pool filled with water. Losers will have to submerge themselves in the pool filled with litter. links Related articles on wild shores of Singapore |
