2,000 CF Light Bulbs Distributed Free to Promote Energy-saving

By West Coast Green

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — In an effort to promote energy efficiency and support the ENERGY STAR 'Change a Light, Change the World' campaign, the West Coast Green Conference & Expo announced today that it will distribute two thousand free compact fluorescent light bulbs to registered attendees on "Homeowner Day".

The light bulbs, donated by OSRAM SYLVANIA as part of the Energy Star 'Change a Light' program, use 1/4 the energy of a standard incandescent light bulb. Each recipient is limited to one bulb and is asked to pledge that they will replace an incandescent bulb with their new compact fluorescent bulb.

"What we love about the ENERGY STAR program is that is both impacting and simple," said Christi Graham, Executive Producer for West Coast Green.

"Participation in the program requires very little effort. If every Bay Area resident changed just one light bulb in their home, together we would save over 846 million kilowatt hours of electricity and 1.3 billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions. That's the equivalent of removing over 20,000 cars from the road."

Participation in the program comes just in time to celebrate "Change A Light Day" which takes place October 4, 2006.

The 7-year old ENERGY STAR 'Change a Light' campaign has been dramatically successful: individuals who already pledged in 2005 will help save more than $2 million in energy costs and prevent more than 33 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions.
