NewsAsia 15 Sep 06 253kg of endangered reptile skins seized from barge SINGAPORE: Hundreds of kilograms of endangered reptile skins were seized on a barge by ICA officers. The officers found 11 packages of reptile skins hidden in two wooden crates. The skins belonged to the reticulated python, the blood python, and monitor lizard. The reptiles are on the endangered species list and are protected under international convention. A 24-year-old Indonesian man, who's a member of the barge's crew, admitted owning the skins. Singapore's Agri-Food Veterinary Authority is investigating the case and if convicted the man faces a fine up to S$5,000 and/or a prison sentence of up to two years. - CNA links Related articles on Wildlife trade |
