Jan 06 SouthWest CDC launches "mosquito-free" Eco Home By Valarie Tan Imagine living in an eco-friendly home that saves energy and is also free from the Aedes mosquito. The SouthWest Community Development Council will be showcasing a first-of-its-kind "Mozzie-Free Eco Home" at a carnival on Sunday. Keep the mosquitoes under wraps - especially when the toilet bowl or gully trap are not in use: this is one of the anti-dengue features and reminder found in the four-room "Mozzie-Free Eco Home". Dr Amy Khor, Mayor, SouthWest CDC, said: "Instead of just doing posters to educate the public how to dengue-proof their homes, it'd be good if we can actually show an actual flat and where are all the places where you could breed Aedes mosquitoes which contributes to dengue." Residents who were at the preview were impressed. "I can see in the toilet facilities they have a cover when not it's not in use. And the flow of the water - there's no obstruction so water can flow out easily," said one resident. The SouthWest CDC also plans to expand the project to other districts within the next 2 years. For now, the one-of-a-kind home is part of "The Clean & Green Living @ South West" Carnival to promote environmental awareness to residents. The carnival is being held at the Hong Kah North Community Club. links Related articles on Singapore: green buildings and Singapore: dengue |
