NewsAsia 6 Dec 05 Over 1,000 students go green in environmental competition By Asha Popatlal, Channel NewsAsia SINGAPORE : Over 1,000 students decided to go green in an environmental competition. And ideas were definitely not in short supply. A primary school winner was inspired by the recent dengue education blitz. He noticed how many people tend to forget to cover their clothes pole holders, so he came up with an innovative way to drain water from it. And for the more energetic, a polytechnic's invention burns calories without burning fuel or a hole in your pocket. All you have to do is walk and you'll get the environmentally friendly treadmill started up. The more you work out, the more energy you will produce. The excess electrical power produced can be stored in a battery to operate the TV, radio or even charge your mobile phone. This is the third year the Green Wave competition, launched by Sembawang Shipyard, is taking place. - CNA /ls links More about the Green Wave competition Related articles on Singapore: general environment issues |
