Channel NewsAsia, 19 Jun 05 Demand for rechargeable batteries doubles By Farah Abdul Rahim/Ng Kee Kaur With more digital devices flooding the market now, the demand for batteries - especially rechargeable ones - has doubled over the past two years. Alkaline batteries make up some 80 percent of the batteries which cannot be recycled, but rechargeable ones which can be recycled are made of nickel hydride and can be charged up to 1,000 times. Manufacturers said this made them more cost efficient than cell batteries, making them ideal for high-capacity digital electronic devices like cameras and MP3 players.
