The survey, to be launched on Wednesday (May 25), is part of a three-yearly review of the Singapore Green Plan 2012. The MEWR started the review of the Singapore Green Plan 2012 on 22 April this year (more, see Government to conduct review of Singapore Green Plan 2012 By Johnson Choo Channel NewsAsia, 22 Apr 05) The review is to ensure that environmental strategies, targets and action programmes mapped out in the Singapore Green Plan 2012 remain robust in the face of emerging environmental challenges. The review is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The online survey will cover a range of issues, including measures to increase recycling and cut waste, and activities to be introduced at the reservoirs. Singaporeans will also be asked what more can be done to address the issue of climate change. The Ministry says the feedback will be channelled to three review Focus Groups on Air and Climate Change, Water, and Clean Land, Nature and Public Health. To take part, the public can log on to the Singapore Green Plan 2012 website at http://www.mewr.gov.sg/sgp2012/. The survey will be available online for the next three months. The public can also send their feedback via email to the SGP2012 Secretariat at mewr_sgp@mewr.gov.sg or fax to 6731 9456. They can also post their comments to the SGP2012 Secretariat Corporate Communications Department Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources Environment Building, 40 Scotts Road, #23-00 (Singapore 228231). Launched in August 2002, the Singapore Green Plan 2012 is Singapore's 10-year blueprint towards environmental sustainability. It sets out Singapore's response to the challenges of sustaining a quality environment while pursuing economic progress. Today website, 24 May 05 How green will you go? by Sheralyn Tay WOULD you support a tax based on how fuel-efficient your car is? Or go to a centralised recycling centre 100m from your flat? How about paying 5 cents for every plastic bag you use? Members of the public are invited to answer these questions and offer their views in the first online environmental survey launched today by the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources. The survey, part of the first three-yearly review of the Singapore Green Plan 2012 (SGP2012), aims to track, among other things, the level of awareness of environmental programmes, as well as assess what programmes will be supported by the public. The online survey is categorised into five feedback areas: Air quality; water conservation; waste and recycling; public health; and the conservation of our natural heritage. Participants can choose to respond to one, some or all of the topics, depending on the environmental issues they are most concerned about. The results of the survey will be given to three focus groups — consisting of professionals, interest groups and academics — which will in turn present their recommendations to the SGP2012 Coordinating Committee in August. To encourage participation, every fifth survey respondent who completes at least three sections will receive a $5 voucher. The survey questions can be accessed at www.mewr.gov.sg/sgp2012 and will be available for the next three months. links The Singapore Green Plan 2012: details of Action Programmes and implementation the MEWR media release Three-yearly review of Singapore Green Plan 2012 22 April 2005 Send your feedback: email mewr_sgp@mewr.gov.sg Fax 6 7319 456 or snail mail to the SGP2012 Secretariat Corporate Communications Department Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources Environment Building, 40 Scotts Road, #23-00 (Singapore 228231).
