Screening of "Remember Chek Jawa" a film by Eric Lim
“Remember Chek Jawa” by independent Singapore filmmaker Eric Lim,
chronicles the discovery of one of Singapore's rare natural gems
and how a group of untrained locals tried to preseve it from total
loss. Eric will be present to meet the audience after the screening.

Sep (Tue): Arctic Tale: A Fundraising Preview for Acres
Arctic Tale is a story of unsinkable family devotion, unfolding
courage and extraordinary survival. It takes audiences of all ages
on an epic adventure inside an icy kingdom at the very top of the
earth where a polar cub, Nanuand a walrus pup, Seela, are about
to tackle the brave new world that confronts them as their ancient
ways of survival are about to change.
The Animal Concerns Research
& Education Society (ACRES) is building the first wildlife
rescue centre in Singapore that will help save and improve the
lives of wild animals that have been smuggled into our country.
$575,000 has been raised and another $516,000 is urgently needed
to complete the centre. Come watch the charity preview with family
and friends! Tickets are at $80, $50, $20 and $10.

Fun Cycling at Pulau Ubin with the Green Volunteers Network
Discover this last unspoilt island of ours! Ride about 2 ˝ hours
and you should be physically fit. We highly recommended that you
rent a crash helmet. Limited to a maximum of 30 cyclists, first
come first served. We will not wait for late comers. Bicycle rentals
range from $6 to $8 a day depending on condition. Please make sure
you can attend, on the last trip many people did not turn up and
deprived other people of a place.

(Sat-Sun): Sleep in at Pulau Ubin
Andrew Tay an accomplished Nature Guide and bird watcher has agreed
to spend the weekend with us at our Ubin Green House. There will
be two nature/bird watching walks, one Saturday evening and the
other early Sunday morning around 6.30 am. We supply dinner, BBQ,
breakfast (Pak Chik Ali’s delicious Longtong) soft and hot drinks
(you pay your own boat fare). You have to bring torchlight, sleeping
bag, personal toiletries and a positive attitude that were going
to have fun!

Sep (Sat): National Library Garden Walk
The Garden Walks tour introduces the surprisingly large number of
plant species within the National Library gardens. Volunteer guides
share the economic and therapeutic values of plants. Tours in English
(Mandarin upon request). No registration is required.
Please take your place in person at the National Library Main Lobby
Information Counter at Level 1, half an hour before the tour begins.
However, places are allocated on a first come, first served basis
with a maximum of 20 persons per tour.

International Coastal Cleanup Singapore
The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) is an annual event conducted
in 70-100 countries, coordinated by the US-based agency, The Ocean
Conservancy, a non-profit organisation. It aims to remove and collect
data on the debris from the shorelines. This information serves
to educate the public and to encourage positive change by submissions
to the government. The International Coastal Cleanup, Singapore
(ICCS) is coordinated by the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research
of the National University of Singapore and is supported by Sungei
Buloh Wetlands Reserve, Waterways Watch Society and numerous local
and international schools, institutions and organisations.

International Coastal Cleanup at Chek Jawa
with Nature Society (Singapore)
for NSS members only
On this day, thousands of volunteers in almost 100 countries gather
for the world's largest volunteer effort for the marine environment.
This year, NSS will be spearheading the clean-up at Chek Jawa from
8am to 11am. Join NSS volunteers on this worthy event.
Recommended attire include hat and shoes/boots and a change of clothes.
Recommended equipment include gloves, pen-knife, sunblock, insect
repellant and poncho. Have a picnic lunch by the sea and explore
P. Ubin in the afternoon. Besides the attractions at Chek Jawa look
out for Singapore's only wild population of Oriental Pied Hornbills,
the elusive Wild Pigs, the rare Red Junglefowl and the Nipis kulit,
a rare seashore tree, hopefully, in bloom.

Sep (Sat): Fun with Snakes with Chim Chee Kong and the NSS Education
Group
Wonder how many types of snakes we have in Singapore and whether
we should be afraid of them? Or where they live and what we should
do if we come across them? Come find out more about the amazing
world of snakes from Chee Kong, who studies snakes! Suitable for
kids 5 to 9 years old. If we are lucky, we will spot nocturnal dog-faced
water snakes in the mangroves. (Tip: Take the MRT to Pasir Ris and
walk across the road to Pasir Ris Park). To register, email Vilma

You'll see the fabulous plants and animals of the mangroves and
freshwater wetlands. Besides the abundant bird life, there is also
other fascinating wildlife in the Reserve. more
9.30am: Marine Fish Tour, a 30-minute tour introducing the
fascinating fishes of Buloh.
Time:
9.30 am and 3.30pm for walk in guests, register at the Visitor Centre.
Those coming with large groups are advised to pre-register.
Tour duration: one to one and a half hours. Easy trails,
some suitable for young children.
Entry charges: $1 per adult, 50cents per child/student/senior
citizen.
