Conservation Chat with Committee members
for NSS members only
This session’s agenda: JTC Seletar Airhub Project and planned developments
at Marina East and South. Held about every three months, conservation
chats serve as an informal gathering for members concerned about
nature conservation in Singapore. Topics or issues for discussion
depend on what crops up in the months before the session. Your proposal
on any topic or issue is welcome. The objectives are to obtain feedback
and suggestions. Come for camaraderie and to share your opinions
on any conservation issues! .

Free Screening of "An Inconvenient Truth" at NUS
Good news for the staff, students and friends of NUS! NUSSU SAVE
(Students Against the Violation of the Earth) is having a free screening
of Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" at a convenient place

Birdwatching at Semakau
for NSS members only
Wong Chung Chong leads this walk. This is a good time to visit Semakau
for migratory birds and migrant surprises. Resident attractions
are: Great-billed Heron. Pacific Reef Egret, Malaysian Plover, etc.
Sightings are possible of rare migrants such as the Chinese Egret,
Oriental Pratincole, etc.
Note: Identity card or passport is mandatory for boarding. Trip
is strictly for members only, on a first-come, first-served basis.
Children under 12 are not allowed (NEA regulation). Your reservation
will be confirmed after the closing date.

Time:
7.30am, meet at the West Coast Ferry Terminal (near Republic
of Singapore Yacht Club. Free parking at Carpark 2 off the West
Coast Highway. We get back to mainland by 2.00pm. Cost: Non-refundable
$25 fee for boat and administration charge. Send your cheque to
the NSS office by 27 January with AP Form. Number of persons for

This is a ‘thank you’ social gathering for volunteers as well as
an opportunity to welcome new members. Admission is free. Bring

Feb (Sat): Lower Peirce Boardwalk
free Nature Appreciation Walk
The 900m boardwalks take you through the forest then along the edge
of the Reservoir. So you will encounter a wide range of wildlife
from forest to aquatic creatures. And enjoy wonderful panaromas
of waters surrounding by luxuriant forest. Shaded by the forest,
the walk is pleasantly cool. more
Time:
9.25am
or 10.25am. Meet at Casuarina Entrance of the trail along Old Upper
Thomson Road, which is a 2 minutes walk from Casuarina Road.
Tour duration: about one and a half hours. Suitable for young
children

3 Feb (Sat): Free Evolution Garden Tour, Singapore Botanic Gardens
Journey
through time with our volunteer guides in this one-hour tour. Bizarre
plants, bubbling pools of hot lava and lots of other things you
wouldn't expect to see in a botanic garden!
Time:
9am, register at Visitor Centre Time. Register 15 minutes before
the tour. Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis.

Feb (Sat): Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve free guided walk
You'll see the fabulous plants and animals of the mangroves and
freshwater wetlands. Besides the abundant bird life, there is also
other fascinating wildlife in the Reserve. more
Time:
9.30 am and 3.30pm for walk in guests, register at the Visitor Centre.
(10am and 4pm slots no longer available).
Those coming with large groups are advised to pre-register.
Tour duration: one to one and a half hours. Easy trails,
some suitable for young children.
Entry charges: $1 per adult, 50cents per child/student/senior
citizen.

Get the latest updates on the Acres Wildlife Rescue Centre, find
out about recent undercover investigations into the trade in endangered
species and to learn about efforts to help animals in captivity.
Most importantly, find out how you can play an important part. Acres
will be sharing plans for the year and highlighting volunteer opportunities.
More than ever, Acres needs your help as the scope of work increases.
Come and meet like-minded people who share your passion for making

Birdwatching at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve
for NSS members only
Experienced birder Lim Kim Seng lead this walk. This is the time
of the year when various species of waders arrive in large numbers
at Singapore’s shores. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn to recognise
these hard-to-identify birds! We will also be looking out or other
migrants like flycatchers and cuckoos, as well as resident birds
like Copper-throated Sunbirds, Pied Fantails and herons. More
about Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve.

7.30am, meet at the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve’s ticketing
booth.

Feb (Sun): Bukit Timah Nature Reserve
free Nature Appreciation Walk
The walk takes you along the short South View trail for a quick
introduction to the rainforest. You will learn more about the amazing
plant life in a rainforest and how everything fits remarkably together.

wheelchairs.
